Product Description

This necklace represents an even rarer form of this material: 108 beads cut from one single genuine Lonely Stone (seed nephrite jade, 籽料独籽). The entire necklace originates from one large natural seed pebble, giving the strand a remarkable continuity of material while allowing the natural color to develop differently across individual beads.

Almost every bead carries a substantial area of natural infiltrated color. The color is exceptionally bright and lively, with beautiful persimmon-orange, golden-orange, and warm yellow tones that immediately catch the eye. Rather than appearing dull or muddy, the color has a warm, luminous quality, giving the necklace an almost glowing appearance. At the same time, the underlying jade flesh remains remarkably fine, dense, smooth, and oily. This combination—rich, concentrated natural color over an exceptionally refined jade body—is precisely what makes this necklace so unusual.

The jade body has a beautiful Qinghua (青花) foundation, rather than a simple white base. Between the vivid orange-yellow areas, the natural jade flesh moves through creamy white and subtle pale ink-gray tones. This creates additional depth within the material and gives the necklace a more complex natural appearance. The relationship between the bright infiltrated color and the softer white-and-ink jade underneath becomes particularly beautiful when all 108 beads are viewed together as a complete strand.

Why 108 Beads? The number 108 carries a long cultural history in Chinese Buddhism and traditional Buddhist prayer beads. It is traditionally associated with the 108 afflictions or attachments of the human mind, and a strand of 108 beads is used as a symbolic way of moving through and letting go of these worldly attachments. For this reason, the 108-bead format has become one of the most recognized traditional forms of Buddhist prayer beads and long bead necklaces in Chinese culture.

For a jade collector, however, a 108-bead necklace carries another meaning as well. Creating a complete strand of 108 high-quality beads requires an extraordinary amount of suitable raw material. When all 108 beads are cut from one genuine Lonely Stone, the challenge becomes far greater: the original pebble must be exceptionally large, fine, clean, and sufficiently consistent in material quality to produce an entire strand while preserving its most beautiful natural color.

Each bead is individually rounded and polished, yet the natural color distribution remains visible. Some beads show more concentrated golden-orange color, while others reveal more of the creamy white or pale ink-colored jade beneath. Because all 108 beads originate from the same Lonely Stone, these variations belong to one continuous piece of natural material. The necklace therefore has both unity and natural variation—something extremely difficult to reproduce by assembling beads from different stones.

A necklace of this quality is exceptionally difficult to create. First, a sufficiently large genuine seed pebble must be found. It must contain enough usable material to produce 108 well-proportioned beads while also possessing the rare combination of vivid natural infiltrated color and exceptionally fine jade flesh. The rough stone must then be cut with considerable care to preserve the best material and color across the entire strand. Very few Lonely Stones can meet these requirements.

This is the kind of piece that is usually appreciated at a more advanced stage of Hetian jade collecting. To a new collector, the vivid persimmon-orange color may be the most immediately striking feature. To an experienced collector, the real fascination lies deeper—in its genuine seed-pebble provenance, the density and fineness of the jade flesh, the quality and saturation of the natural infiltrated color, the Qinghua foundation, and the extraordinary fact that all 108 beads come from the same original stone.

A 108-bead necklace made from one exceptional Lonely Stone is a rare pursuit for serious jade collectors and a piece with the potential to be passed down through generations. At this level, it is not simply a beautiful jade necklace, but an unusually complete expression of what an extraordinary Xinjiang seed pebble can become when exceptional natural material, rarity, cultural meaning, and craftsmanship come together.
